What is Healing? Why or what do I need to heal? These are questions that are asked to me and cross my mind almost daily and there are very simple answers. Healing is the process of surrender, allowing Love to return to us. To Heal is to allow that Love to permeate who and what we are. One is the process and one is the result.
Now, I know - “Here’s another guy saying all we need is love. We heard this before. Love, Love Love!” Yet bear with me a bit here. Stop for a moment and just sit with this. Just stop. Let go of your preconceived notions for the moment of what you think you know or think you don’t know about love. Maybe I will say the same thing, but in just the right way for you to feel something a little different today. Let your history go for the moment and be open to experiencing something new, even if you think you know the answer already - ESPECIALLY if you think you know the answer already.
There are essentially two states of being in this world with a whole lot of varying degrees between them. One is Love, the other is Fear. Everything can be brought back to those two ways of being. Everything. We can describe all of our existence in relation to those to states of being. Why do we desire relationships, platonic or intimate? To feel the connection - Love. Why do we run from relationships? We are afraid of the connection - Fear. Why do we move towards or away from certain food or clothing or activities? What is the reason we move towards or away from anything? The reason is some sort of experience of love or fear. Love can be experienced anywhere from a simple joy to compassion to what many have described as bliss. Fear can be experienced anywhere from slight anxiety to resisting uncomfortable situations to absolute dread.
Trouble arises when we begin to confuse the two and create habits in our lives that we think are productive. Some habits were once productive but are not anymore, and only bring a momentary experience of pleasure that is fleeting and ends up causing pain in the long run. Chronic conditions (mental, physical or spiritual) ensue when we continue to foster these misunderstandings and repeat themfor days, weeks, months or years.
This is the why and the what we need to heal. The myriad ways we create misunderstandings and confusions between love and fear, the walls, defenses, wounds, triggers and projections we place upon our world, however slight or large they may be. The process of healing is the surrender into love, not a a defeat or punishment but a surrender, one which allows light into our darkest places and brings with it a sense of freedom or release and fulness at the same time.
To Heal is to return to Love. Healing is allowing ourselves to accept that love and be it!
