It happens quickly and it hits hard! That dreaded stomach virus that rears its ugly head this time of year. It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, low grade fever and just plain nausea, sometimes for days! This year I have heard that the vomiting has lasted anywhere from 12-24 hours. Here are some tips how our family got through it over the holidays.
For nausea and vomiting, rub a drop of DigestZen essential oil blend along with a few drops of a carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut oil) around your belly button. Do this every 20 minutes. If a couple hours have passed and the vomiting has not subsided, add a drop each of the following along with the DigestZen: Ginger, Fennel and OnGuard. Again, be sure to also use a carrier oil, the Ginger essential oils is quite spicy! If you can tolerate, eat a teaspoon or two of organic Coconut Oil. This will also help sooth the stomach lining and has anti-viral/anti-bacterial properties.
We found it beneficial to diffuse the above essential oils in the room. You can also add lemon essential oil to help clean the air.
If you are still vomiting for several hours, you can take Homeopath of Ipecac. This is a good remedy to keep in the home so you are prepared. You can get this at your local health food store.
Be sure to stay well hydrated, but only drink small sips at a time, especially if you are having a hard time keeping anything down. Stay away from the sugary electrolyte drinks, this can further compromise your immune system, plus, the dyes in these drinks are extremely unhealthy for you! Stick with coconut water or plain, filtered water.
You may not be able to avoid this bug, but at least you can have the ammunition to fight it and make your sickness more tolerable and it will also help you get over it quicker!
